It All Matters

I've been offering these upgrade parts for Khorns and Belles for a very long time now, and while I used to offer to sell the parts individually, I am no longer doing that.  As I look back at the hundreds of Upgrades customers who have purchased products from me, those customers who purchased the entire upgrade package all at one time are the most satisfied customers I have, while those who purchased just the horns with adapters, or just the crossovers, never got to experience the highest performance level offered by the entire package.

The Volti Audio Klipsch Upgrades system is a complete engineered system that depends on each and every part to contribute to the whole.  There is great synergy between the parts, and the sound quality you get with this package is the very best sound available from any Klipsch Klipschorn or Belle speaker ever made, including the brand new Khorns that Klipsch is offering.  I know that may be difficult for some of you to believe, but it is true.   Brand new Khorns simply do not have the quality of drivers, crossovers, internal wiring, or horns that you'll get when you purchase the Volti Audio Klipsch Upgrades.

V-TracII Midrange Horns

The stock Khorn midrange horn (all models) is a perfect horn to use if you want to illustrate what a 'honky' horn sounds like.  The tiny(11/16" diameter inlet), and long throat of this horn, is responsible for creating colorations and a constricted sound to the midrange that is completely unacceptable by modern horn speaker standards, and also completely fixable with the upgrade to the Volti Audio Khorn V-TracII Horns.

Open up, warm up, and smooth out the midrange with the Volti Audio V-TracII horn.  You'll be amazed at how this midrange horn improves everything about your Khorns - even the upper bass out of the bass horn takes on better definition and detail.

And when it comes to Belle speakers, the Belle V-Trac horn is an even bigger improvement.  The stock Belle midrange horn is considerably smaller than the stock Khorn midrange horn, yet the V-Trac horn is only slightly smaller than the Khorn V-Trac horn (so it can fit under the slightly smaller tophat of the Belle).  In other words, the Khorn V-Trac is about twice the size of the stock Khorn mid horn, but the Belle V-Trac is five times larger than the stock Belle mid horn!  Get ready Belle owners, you're about to be seriously upgraded!

Khorn V-TracII Horn

Volti Tweeters

I'm always on the hunt for great sounding high-sensitivity tweeters to use in my speakers.  Choices are limited.  Most high-sensitivity tweeters are made for P.A. use and they have that irritating 8Khz - 10Khz peak that is a hallmark of P.A. tweeters.  That may work for Klipsch, but it doesn't work for me.  The Volti Tweeter is one of those rare pieces that offers smooth and extended response from a very high-quality compression driver and a 1"-throat horn lens.  Blends perfectly with the V-Trac horn and never calls attention to itself in a negative way, like the Klipsch tweeters do.

VTK400 Crossovers

The VTK400 Crossover is a Greg Roberts design that offers a similar design philosophy to Mr. Klipsch's Type-A network, but with much higher quality parts.  It is a crossover that is carefully tuned to correctly 'balance' the components of the system.  By using fewer parts of exceptionally high quality, the purity of the signal coming into the speaker is maintained as it passes through the crossover and to the individual drivers of the speaker.  It is a pure, 'do no harm' approach to system design that allows the music to flow naturally and effortlessly.

The Volti Audio VTK400 Crossover is the best sounding crossover I've ever designed for the Klipsch Khorn, and it is perfectly suitable for use in the Belle or La Scala.

Midrange Drivers

A very important part of the Volti Audio Khorn Upgrade package is to replace those old K55 midrange drivers (originally designed as firehouse station siren drivers - yes really), with modern, very high quality, 2" outlet midrange compresson drivers.  I offer two different choices, both chosen because of their diaphragms made of natural materials like paper and/or phenolic material, as opposed to metal.  In combination with the big, 2"-throat, wooden, hand-built V-Trac midrange horns, they are nothing short of amazing in terms of providing that effortless, full, rich, spacious midrange sound that Volti Audio is known for.  That 'midrange' that makes you believe you could walk into the soundstage and shake hands with the saxaphone player!

Woofers and Wiring

Are the woofers in your Khorns the original ones?  Are they K33 4-ohm woofers?  Unless you bought your Khorns new and you know that the woofers have never been replaced, I recommend you have a look inside to make sure they are the correct woofers.  It is common for people to change out the original woofers for something that is not correctly specified and the performance of the bass horn suffers because of it.  The Khorn bass horn requires a properly specified woofer to work properly.

So you've opened them up and verified that they have Klipsch K33 4-ohm woofers.  Great.  Those woofers can last for decades.  But if they are very old, how do you know if they are 100%?  It's hard to tell, which is why you might consider replacing them with new woofers.

If you decide to do that, the Crites 1526C woofer is the one you want.  It is designed and manufactured to be an exact replacement.

Will you get a big improvement by doing this?  Honestly it's hard to say.  Maybe not, because if you have two good working original K33 woofers in your Khorns, the Crites woofers offer very little improvement, if any noticeable improvement.  But if your 40 year old woofers are worn out, you will probably notice a nice improvement by changing them out.  In the big scheme of things, it's a $350 investment in new parts that will compliment the rest of the $4,500 parts you are buying.  It's a bit of a risk I guess, but at least it's only a $350 risk, and in the end you will have peace of mind knowing that you're getting the highest level of performance from your bass horns.

It really wouldn't make much sense to upgrade all these parts and not change out the wiring now would it?  Of course not, which is why we offer two different options for internal wiring.
